Vormohr leads East Jay over Eagles (05/10/05)

PORTLAND — Cori Vormohr picked up two wins as the East Jay girls track team took three of the four field events en route to a 58-42 win over the Delta Eagles Monday. The boys team lost a close battle with Delta, 52-48.
Vormohr’s victories came in the throwing events. She was first in the discus at 82 feet, 2 inches and the shot put with a toss of 26 feet, 111/2 inches.
Kelsey Wood picked up the third field-event win with a leap of four feet, four inches in the high jump. She was followed by teammate Carrie Schmitmeyer at four feet, two inches.
The Chief girls earned three other top individual finishes. Kari Hemmelgarn took the hurdles in 18.52 seconds, Jordan McMillan was first in the 200-meter dash in 29.52 seconds and Tiffany Helms won the 1,600 run in 6-minutes, 14.50 seconds.
Dexter Shreve and Brandon Reynard each picked up a pair of wins for the boys team.
Shreve won both jumping events, leaping 17 feet, 81/2 inches in the long jump and five feet, four inches in the high jump. Reynard controlled the sprints with wins in times of 11.86 in the 100 dash and 25.3 in the 200 dash.
Lance Franklin was first in the 400 dash in 58.16, and Isaac Poole won the 1,600 run in 5:26.25.
East Jay’s boys and girls each took first in the 4x400 relay.
The Chiefs won both B team competitions, 57-43 for the girls and 51-49 for the boys.
Winners for the girls B team were Leah Wellman (1,600 run), Lindsey Moser (400 run), Cassie Laux (800 run), Kayla Hill (discus) and McMillan (high jump). The boys team got victories from Nathan Stephen (high jump), Nick Stevens (1,600 run) and Jacob Chenoweth (400 dash).[[In-content Ad]]
