Vormohr scores pair of wins for Jay tankers (12/19/05)

CONNERSVILLE — Cori Vormohr picked up the only Jay County wins as the Patriot swim teams competed at the Connersville Invitational Saturday.
The girls team finished sixth at the seven team meet with 105 points, and the boys team was fifth with 107 points. East Central won both the girls and boys competitions with 371 and 387 points respectively.
Vormohr won each of her specialty events, staying undefeated in individual events for the season. She was first in the 200-yard individual medley in 2-minutes, 24.18 seconds and the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:04.89.
The top effort for the boys team came from Tom McCord in the 100 backstroke. He finished in third place, just three hundredths behind Tom Dickhaus of East Central, with a time of 1:04.86.
Jay County will have nearly three weeks off before returning to the pools Jan. 6 at Bellmont.
Stars fall again
GARRETT — South Adams’ girls basketball team slipped to 1-7 Saturday with a 64-36 loss to the Garrett Railroaders.
Garrett put the pressure on early, posting 19 points in the first quarter and out-scoring the Starfires 18-4 in the second. It added another 19 in the fourth quarter for the final margin.
Julie Muhlenkamp led South Adams with 11 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots. Andrea Moser had eight points, and Kayla Coblentz notched seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Jessica Walker led three Railroaders in double figures with 15 points. Katie Carunchia scored 12 points, and Molly Getts added 11.
South Adams also lost the junior varsity game 49-24. Jordan Lehman scored 10 points.
JC grapplers place 6th
MONTICELLO — Kurt Hess was the Patriots’ lone champion as the Jay County wrestling team placed sixth at the 16-team Twin Lakes Invitational Saturday.
Hess, a senior ranked 10th in the state, finished first at 145 pounds. He defeated a previously unbeaten wrestler from Delphi en route to the title.
Bill Spahr, No. 7 in the state, finished as the runner up at 171 pounds. Jason Crouch was fourth in the heavyweight division.
Fort freshman lose
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery freshman boys basketball team was up by one at halftime, but could not keep the lead as it fell 38-33 to the Botkins Trojans Saturday.
Tom Will led the Indians with nine points against Botkins, which scored 15 third-quarter points to take the lead. Curtis Schroer and Brady Kahlig added seven and six points respectively.[[In-content Ad]]
