Vormohr sets records as Jay stays perfect (06/27/06)

Local roundup

MONROE — One record stood for 14 years. The other was set last season. Both are gone now.

Cori and Anne Vormohr each erased previous records again Monday as the Jay County Summer Swim Team clobbered host North Adams Central for the second time this season. The win pushed the team’s record to 6-0.

Anne Vormohr took down the long-standing record, breaking the team mark in the 8-and-younger short freestyle. She finished in a time of 19.24 seconds, taking down the record Abby Arnold set in 1992.

Cori Vormohr’s new record also came in the short freestyle, bettering the time Lindsey Vesperry set just a year ago. She finished the 15-and-older event in 30.46.

Monday was also a big day for the Miller family as Eme, Ali and Sam all picked up three victories. Others to win three events were Levi Hummel, Mary Hudson, Wiley Young and Aaron Hudson.

Cards finish 1-1

KOKOMO — The Geneva Cardinals split their two games at the Kokomo Shootout this weekend before rain ended their tournament stay.

Geneva dropped its opening game, losing 4-3 to the Midwest Prospects, but came away with a 4-3 win over the Indiana Outlaws.

The Cardinals (7-5) led 3-1 after six innings before the Outlaws took advantage of errors to pull even.

However, Ryan Bedwell led off the bottom of the seventh with a single, and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Alex Childers. After a Colin Ziegel walk, Nate Colclasure drove in the winning run.

Dann Hunt suffered the defeat in game one.

Ace in the valley

GENEVA — Megan Rinker, a Jay County High School graduate, scored a hole-in-one at Wabash Valley Golf Course recently. She used a 9-iron to ace the 80-yard, par-3 12th hole.[[In-content Ad]]
