Vormohr snaps pair of records (12/02/05)

Swim roundup

ANDERSON — Cori Vormohr had a big night, but the wins were few and far between for the Patriots Thursday.

Vormohr broke a pair of Jay County school records, including one of her own set earlier this season, but her two wins were the only ones the Patriot girls swim team could manage in a 120-66 loss to the Anderson Highland Scots. The boys team also had just two victories as it slipped to 0-2 by a 113-65 score.

Getting pushed by Katie Windlan of Highland, Vormohr shattered Abby Arnold’s record in the 100-yard butterfly. She finished in 1-minute, 3.34 seconds — 29 hundredths ahead of Windlan — to break the previous record of 1:04.88.

Vormohr, a freshman, also beat Windlan in the 200 individual medley, snapping her own school record set in the opening meet of the season in 2:20.74.

The lone swimming win for the boys team came from Tom McCord in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.33. Todd McCowan led a diving sweep with a score of 156.20.

SAHS clobbers Hornets

BERNE — The South Adams swim teams came out strong Thursday, clobbering the Angola Hornets 128-41 in boys competition and 104-65 in girls.

The Starfire boys team won every event, getting two wins apiece from Justin Klopp, Matt Kruse and John Gresla. Klopp finished first in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 backstroke, Kruse dominated the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly and Gresla was the top swimmer in the 50 and 100 freestyle.

Jessica Sharp picked up a pair of victories for the girls team. She controlled the long-distance events, finishing first in the 200 and 500 freestyle.

Other winners for the boys were Drew Dull in the 100 backstroke and Kyle Affolder in the 100 breaststroke. Haleigh Lehman was first in the 50 freestyle for the girls team, and Channing Yoder won the 100 breaststroke.[[In-content Ad]]
