Taking Note

The Jay County Historical Museum will have Christmas at the Museum from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30 and Dec. 7, 14 and 21. The museum is located at 903 E. Main St. in Portland.

Christmas trees are on display that have been decorated by each school in Jay County and the Jay County Christian Academy. Visitors can vote for their favorite tree by placing a food item underneath it to donate to the Helping Hand Food Bank.

The winning school will be awarded a set of Jay County history books for their library.

The museum will also be open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. through Dec. 21.

Performances

Broguen Whetstone, the daughter of Andre and Joe Whetstone of Bryant, recently performed four selections by Ysaye Maria Barnwell at Earlham's Chamber Music and Ensembles concert in Goddard Auditorium at Earlham College in Richmond.

Whetstone is a freshman at Earlham and a member of the Women's Choir.

Samantha Freeman, Portland, recently played one of the River City townspeople in Huntington University Theatre Company's production of "The Music Man."

Freeman is a sophomore majoring in theatre performance.

November students

West Jay Middle School students recently named its Students of the Month for November.

In sixth grade was Mitch Bennett, the son of Tab and Tammy Bennett; in seventh grade was Kimbra Edwards, the daughter of Jeff and Kim Edwards; and Kortney Garringer, the daughter of Dean and Karen Garringer.[[In-content Ad]]
