AGREEMENT AMENDED
An agreement has been reached that could end an investigation into the restructuring plans of American Electric Power Inc. and maintain the current base rates of Indiana Michigan Power Company through June 2007.
The four formal parties in the agreement are I&M, the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor, IURC testimonial staff, and a group of I&M industrial customers.
AEP’s original plan was to separate its generating plants and energy delivery operations into unregulated and regulated corporations. The plan was approved by federal regulators and agreed to by the other parties, but was no longer required when circumstances changed in the national electric utility industry.
This agreement establishes gradual increases in I&M’s charges for recovering fuel costs through June 2007, unless the IURC decides additional charges are needed due to a financial emergency. These annual adjustments would be passed on to customers and are expected to increase an average residential customer’s bill by about 2 percent by 2007.
A hearing on the agreement will be held at a later date.
