PARKER CITY — Liz Walker had a big match as the East Jay eighth grade volleyball team jumped above .500 with a 25-16, 25-17 victory over the Monroe Central Golden Bears Wednesday.
Walker posted team highs for the Chiefs (6-5) in points (seven), aces (six) and assists (six). She added two kills and two digs.
Ashley Langenkamp had six points and two digs. Lindsey Wellman scored all of her four points on aces and also had four kills.
Pazia Speed finished with six kills, Shelby Gierhart had six points and Lacey Randolph notched three digs.
Chief gridders drop two
Tuesday was a rough night for the East Jay football teams. The eighth grade squad dropped a 12-8 decision to Richmond Dennis, and the seventh graders lost 30-0 against Hagerstown.
East Jay’s eighth graders took the lead in the second quarter when Whitey Langenkamp tossed a 46-yard touchdown pass to Ben Vance. Vance ran in the two-point conversion for an 8-0 advantage.
However, Richmond pulled within two at the half and scored another touchdown in the third quarter for the victory.
Vance finished with 58 yards on 11 carries, and Tyler Freyburger led the team with 14 tackles.
The seventh grade team struggled to move the ball, getting minimal rushing yardage while Brendan Reed went 3-of-5 passing for 37 yards. Reed, Stetson Petro and Ike Bruggeman each had four tackles, and Bruggeman also came up with an interception.[[In-content Ad]]
