The Performance Company will present Seussical The Musical in July at Arts Place in Portland. To celebrate, The Cat in the Hat and other Dr. Seuss characters from the cast will be making appearances in Portland.

The first appearance will be in the Fourth of July parade in downtown Portland at 11 a.m.

The next will be at kid’s night on Thursday, July 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Arby’s. Be sure to register for door prizes.

Story time will be Saturday, July 8, from 4 to 5 p.m. at Jay County Public Library. The Cat in The Hat will be reading some favorite Dr. Seuss stories.

Also the Cat, Horton and other characters will be the guests at a Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast Monday, July 10, through Saturday, July 15, from 8 a.m. until noon at Norm’s Place in Jay Garment Antique Mall.

Breakfast includes green eggs, ham, potatoes and a drink. Tickets must be purchased in advance and the cost is $4 for children 10 and under and $6 for adults. Advanced tickets may be purchased at Norm’s Place, The Glass Bonsai and Locker’s Touch of Country, all in Portland, or call Andre at (260) 846-0259.

Seussical the Musical will be at Arts Place, 131 E. Walnut Street Thursday, July13, through Sunday, July 16. Performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday are at 7 p.m. and matinees will be Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Opening night special will be Thursday, with all tickets $5. Regular price tickets are $6 for children and $8 for adults.

Circle brunch

Reservations are being taken for the Women’s Giving Circle Brunch to be held Saturday, July 22, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Arts Place in Portland. Heidi Floyd, an employee of the Vera Bradley Company and a breast cancer survivor, will be the guest speaker.

Botanical events

Several shows will take place this summer at the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 S. Calhoun Street in Fort Wayne.

Making Tracks, a display of trains, will begin Saturday and continue through Sept. 24. Three trains will cross trestles, climb hills and journey through tunnels and passageways amid 17 varieties of flowers and plants.

The Fort Wayne Daylily Society will present the Daylily Show on Saturday, July 8. Come enjoy yellow, burgundy, orange, salmon and pink daylilies.

Music in the Garden on Sunday, July 16, will present the jazzy sounds of George Ogg and Kevin Piekarski from 1 to 3 p.m.

Jazz Under the Stars is Sunday, July 16, from 7 to 9:15 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m. Bring a lawn chair and picnic for an evening in the outdoor gardens, including the Vintage jazz band and vocalist Francie Zucco. Wendy’s will serve Frosties and beverages and there is a perfect view of the Three Rivers Festival fireworks that will take place.
