Waters picks up 3rd win

SALA BAGANZA, Italy - Jay County High School graduate Mitch Waters picked up his third win of the year Sunday for the Sala Baganza Baseball Club.
Waters, JCHS class of 2002, tossed a complete-game shutout in Sala Baganza's 3-0 victory over Collecchio. He struck out seven batters and allowed just two hits in nine innings.
He dropped his previous start as Sala Baganza fell 9-2 to Messina on May 1. He was hurt by four bunts and an error in a single inning in the defeat.
For the season, Waters leads the team with a 1.42 ERA in five starts. He has tossed three complete games and has 29 strikeouts in 38 innings.
Bearcats top Jay track
MUNCIE - Karlos Harper and Tevan Nichols each posted a pair of wins Tuesday, but it was not enough as the Jay County boys track team fell 74-57 to the Muncie Central Bearcats.
Harper picked up his pair of victories in the throwing events, taking the shot put at 35 feet, 10 ½ inches with teammate Kyler Blowers second and the discus with a toss of 113 feet, 11 inches. Nichols continued his successful season in the distance races, taking the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 7.9 seconds and the 1,600 in 4:47.
Zach Cash took the top spot in the 300 hurdles in 43.4, and Patrick Johnson led a one-two finish in the 400 dash in 54.9 ahead of Brad Leuthold. Joe Imel, Blake Crouch, Gary Corle and Cash teamed to take the 4x100 relay in 47.8 seconds.
Fort names cheerleaders
FORT RECOVERY - Fort Recovery High School selected its cheerleaders for the 2010-11 school year following try-outs Wednesday.
Shelby Alig, Nicole Siefring, Alison Koch, Deanna Crouch, Courtney Wilker, Becca Tobe, Jessica Kaiser, Kelly Wendel, Maleia Fullenkamp and Taylor Wendel will be on the football cheerleading squad. Tana Hart, Andrea Zumstein, Alig, Kaiser, Koch, Siefring, Kelly Wendel and Taylor Wendel will be on the varsity basketball squad.
The junior varsity basketball squad will include Emily Metzger, Alex Shelton, Sydney Wilson, Wilker and Crouch.[[In-content Ad]]
