WBC tournament starts Friday

Baseball fans will have plenty of games to keep them busy this weekend.
The Portland Rockets will host the World Baseball Congress Tournament, which will include eight teams from five states. It begins Friday with the Northwest (Gary) Patriots taking on the Louisville Angels at Jay County High School on Friday at 3 p.m. and concludes with the championship game at Runkle-Miller Field on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Teams will compete in pool play on Friday and Saturday, followed by the semifinal and championship games Sunday. Pool A will include the Rockets (15-15), Cincinnati Chiefs, Fort Wayne Pirates and Battle Creek Behnke, and Pool B will feature the Decatur Dirty Birds, defending champion Illinois (Chicago) Jayhawks, Patriots and Angels.
On Friday there will be two games at JCHS followed by two at Runkle-Miller Field beginning at 6 p.m. Each site will host four games Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
The top two teams from each pool will advance to semifinal games, which will be played at each site Sunday at 11 a.m., followed by the championship game at Runkle-Miller Field at 2 p.m.
Portland will play the Chiefs Friday at 7:30 p.m., the Patriots Saturday at 11 a.m. and Battle Creek Saturday at 5p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
