Weather may have ruined party

As I See It

By Diana Dolecki-

After a busy couple of days all I can do is wait. We had yet another trip to the doctor for my mother last week. She is fine, or at least as much as she can be. We stopped before her appointment and obtained some more craft supplies, so even though she doesn’t believe that anything is wrong with her that anybody can fix, she is happy with her purchases and looking forward to starting new projects. I find that new projects always cheer me up as much as it does for her.
The following day my husband and I attended the home and garden show. We sat through an informative program on roses. The noise in the hallway ruined parts of the presentation. We were told that was an ongoing problem. Despite repeated complaints, the rudeness persists. It’s a pity, because the woman talking about roses had obviously done copious amounts of research.
We stayed for a flower pounding demonstration. That is about what it sounds like. You apply flower parts to whatever you want to decorate, cover it with a paper towel or wax paper then pound away with a hammer. This transfers the pigment from the flowers to the paper or fabric you are decorating. It also relieves a good deal of stress. The result is an abstract watercolor-like image. The gentleman next to me said it would be a perfect project to share with his grandchildren. I was thinking the exact same thing.
We walked through the exhibits of various products for inside and outside the home. I picked up handfuls of freebies, brochures and whatever else the vendors were giving away. We were hoping for home improvement ideas but didn’t come away with anything new. I did see some flower bulbs I wanted. I was glad I didn’t give in to the lure of the pretty photos. I picked up the information about the bulbs and read that they prefer sandy soil which is the exact opposite of what is in my yard. The bulbs would be far happier in somebody else’s flowerbed.
I compensated by purchasing some onion sets when I went grocery shopping the next day. Then I went home and baked a birthday cake.
The cake is for the February birthdays. The only problem is the weatherman. He is once again spouting gloom and doom. Ice, snow and frigid temperatures are on the horizon. Even though we finally made it through February, March seems to be taking this business of coming in like a lion to the extreme.
I am still undecided as to whether or not I am going to brave the snowy roads. The weather predictions are dire. Snow and ice, followed by more snow and ice, followed by bitter cold is what they tell me is coming.
Normally, I ignore the prognosticators. They seem to be wrong more often than not. But I woke up to snow on Sunday morning. More of the white stuff is drifting through the air. My destination is farther away than I would like. Do I stay in the safety of home or do I travel into the unknown and ignore the predictions of inclement weather?
I have sent a message to my sister-in-law asking about the conditions near them. I have yet to get an answer. So I wait and worry.
I am so tired of being told, “You better stay home. It’s going to snow!” I just might give in and stay home. That has never happened before, but this winter is wearing me down. The only salvation is the sunshine. We have had more sunny days than I remember from winters past. The birds are returning so spring can’t be that far away. Yet, there is that forecast …
Still, I am undecided. Do I go or do I stay? I really don’t know.[[In-content Ad]]
