Mulch, compost available
Free mulch and compost will be available today and Thursday in Portland, while supplies last.
The material will be available from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the city's compost site, located along North Morton Street, across from the Jay County Fairgrounds. A city employee will be on site to help load the material.
Wal-Mart wreck
A Portland man struck another vehicle while driving in the Wal-Mart parking lot Tuesday evening.
James R. Burkett, 82, 1311 West 800 South, Portland, was pulling out of a parking spot when he failed to see a vehicle driven by Judith M. Stauffer, 83, 1106 W. Water St., Berne, approaching.
An estimated $1,000 to $2,500 of damage was caused to Burkett's 2006 Dodge Caravan and Stauffer's 2002 Ford Windstar in the 5:09 p.m. accident.
Commissioners business
The Jay County Commissioners performed the following Monday:
•Approved a request for use of the courthouse bathrooms during a cruise-in on May 22 for the Arch Bridge Kroozers.
•Signed paperwork for the annual operating grant for Jay County Community Corrections.[[In-content Ad]]
