William Hilty

William A. Hilty, 29, rural Bluffton, died at his residence Tuesday night. He was the brother of a Portland resident.

Born on July 5, 1974, to Amos E. and Margaret J. (Graber) Hilty in rural Bluffton, he was a member of the Old Order Amish.

Surviving are his parents; his fiance; three brothers; four sisters, including Mrs. Christy A. (Elizabeth) Nuenschwander, Portland; and 17 nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. at his residence, 4974 West 300-01 South.

Burial will follow in Schwartz Cemetery, Monroe.

Visitation is Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at his residence.

John Porter

John R. Porter, 81, Berne, died Tuesday evening in Adams County Memorial Hospital, Decatur.

He was the brother of Portland residents.

Born in Park County to Frank and Hazel (Livengood) Porter on June 20, 1922, he married Margaret Mitchell in Poland on June 20, 1968. She survives.

A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a funeral director with Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home for 45 years.

He was a charter member of the Berne Lions Club; a member of American Legion No. 468, Berne, where he was a former commander; a member of the Fort Wayne Scottish Rite, Geneva Blue Lodge, Adams County Shriners and Cross United Church of Christ, where he was an elder.

Other survivors include a son; and three sisters, including Mrs. Gabor (Jo) Takats, and Mrs. Jon (Mary Katherine) Juillerat, both of Portland.

Services are Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home with the Rev. Randall Luther officiating.

Burial will follow in M.R.E. Cemetery, Berne.

Visitation is Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
