Bob Davis
Services for Bob C. Davis, 84, 6303 East Ind. 26, Portland, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home, with Pastor Paul Strouse officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Fort Recovery.
Davis died early Tuesday morning in AmeriCare Living Center, Portland.
Born in Jay County on June 15, 1919, to John R. and Mae (Freemyer) Davis, he married Esther N. Sanders on Nov. 11, 1941. She survives.
A 1937 graduate of Pennville High School, Pennville, he owned and operated Davis Drilling from 1945 to 1980 in rural Portland. He served on the Noble Township Advisory Board and was a trustee for 12 years; was a Democratic election commissioner for 14 years; a Jay County commissioner for four years; and was a farmer in Noble Township for over 55 years.
He was a member of the Bellefountain United Methodist Church, where he was a trustee and usher. He was also a member of the Portland Moose and Odd Fellows lodges.
Other survivors include two sons, James C. Davis and Robert B. Davis, both of rural Portland; and two grandchildren.
Visitation is Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Bellefountain United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
Theodotta Hilliard
Services for Theodotta D. Hilliard, 82, East Main Street, Redkey, are Saturday at M.J.S. Mortuaries-Redkey Chapel, Redkey. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery on Ind. 1.
She died Sunday in the AmeriCare Living Center, Portland.
Born to Russell and Ina (Heniscey) Rantz on Oct. 24, 1921, in Redkey, she married Churchill T. Hilliard who preceded her in death.
Retiring from Kerr Glass, Dunkirk, she worked at Hampton Bakery, Redkey, and the Box Shop. She was a member of the North Meridian Street United Methodist Church, Redkey; the Care and Share Group; and Local Union No. 96.
Surviving are two sons, Kenneth M. Hilliard, Portland, and Dennis D. Hilliard, Bluffton; two daughters, Connie Hilliard, Redkey, and Mrs. Jim (Marcia) Elwood, Maryville, Tenn.; three sisters, Helen Joyce Farling, Leesburg, Fla., Mary Friddle, Redkey, and Mrs. John (Wanda) Buckles, Waco, Texas; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary.
Memorials may be made to the North Meridian Street United Methodist Church, Redkey.
Virgil Callahan
Virgil Clifford Callahan, 88, Muncie, died Tuesday morning following an extended illness. He was a Jay County native.
Born in Jay County to Chester and Ola Callahan, on Aug. 29, 1915, he served in the U.S. Army.
Retiring from Delco Remy, Anderson, after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Lions Club, Moose Lodge and American Legion, all of Muncie.
Surviving are a stepson, Albert Stults, Muncie; three stepdaughters, Janice Morgan, Brownsburg, Mrs. Jerry (Sue) Shields, Covington, Ohio, and Mrs. Martin (Sharon) Dull, Franklin, N.C.; a sister, Mrs. Rodney (Virginia) Fink, Yorktown; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services are Friday at 1 p.m. in Garden View Funeral Home, Muncie, with Pastor Rusty Clements officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Muncie.
Visitation is Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
