Helen Schurman
Services are Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Fort Recovery, for Helen E. Schurman, 92, a former Fort Recovery resident who resided at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater, Ohio, died there Monday night.
The Rev. Paul Wohlwend will officiate and burial will take place at St. Anthony Cemetery, St. Anthony, Ohio.
Born in St. Anthony on July 30, 1911, to Theodore and Rosalia (Laux) Schurman, she was a member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church and the church’s Altar Sodality.
She was the last of her immediate family.
Visitation is today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. at Brockman and Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery. A prayer service will be held today at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Bobbie Hickerson
Bobbie Hickerson, 82, Union City, died Tuesday at his residence. He was the father of a Fort Recovery resident.
Born on Sept. 4, 1921, to Palmer and Gladys Hickerson in Crothersville, he served in World War II with the U.S. Army.
He received a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star while serving.
He was married to Louise Henry for 56 years before her death in 2003.
Retiring from Sheller-Globe Hardy’s Division after 40 years of service, he was a member of the New Lisbon Christian Church; the Masonic Blue Lodge No. 444, Union City; and Sheller-Globe Hardy’s Division Retirees.
Surviving are four sons, including Michael Hickerson, Fort Recovery; two sisters; three brothers; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are Friday at 2 p.m. at Reichard Funeral Home Inc. Ind. 28, Union City, with the Revs. Thom Albin and Dave Napi presiding. Burial will follow in the Union City Cemetery, Union Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by the American Legion and V.F.W. Post, both of Unin City.
Visitation is Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the State of the Heart Home Health Hospice.
Peggy Henry
Peggy L. “Ransom” Henry, 74, Muncie, died Tuesday morning at Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie. She was a former Portland resident.
The daughter of Lawrence W. and Dora L. (Mills) Ransom, she was born in Flat River, Mo. She lived in the Muncie area for over 50 years.
She worked at Jay Garment Co., Portland; Williamsburg Village, Muncie, for 17 years; the Pixie Diner, Muncie; and at Ball Stores, Muncie, as a seamstress.
Survivors include a son, William J. Clifton, Muncie; a daughter, Mrs. Mark (Robin) Elmore, Indianapolis; two brothers, Denver P. and Wyman L. Ransom, both of Muncie; a sister, Rachel F. Dunmoyer, Muncie; and five grandchildren.
Services are Friday at 1 p.m. in The Meeks Mortuary Chapel, Muncie, with Pastor Rusty Clements officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery.
Visitation is Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and after noon on Friday at the chapel.

Katherine Ware Bice, 85, McMinnville, Tenn., died Monday afternoon in Centennial Medical Center, Nashville, Tenn. following an extended illness. She was the mother of a Portland resident.
Born on Dec. 2, 1918, in McMinnville to Isham and Ethel (Muncey) Ware, she married William A. Bice Sr. who died in 1992.
She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Leo Church of Christ.
Surviving are one daughter; a son, William A. Bice Jr., Portland; a brother; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are Thursday at High Funeral Home Chapel, McMinnville, Tenn., with David Costello officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. View Cemetery.
Visitation is today from 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from noon until services begin at the funeral home.
