Conference
Parent/teacher conferences at Jay County High School will be held Thursday, Feb. 26, from 5:15 to 7:45 p.m.
The event was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but was re-scheduled due to recent school closings.
Also, the JCHS third-cycle grading period has been extended to Friday, April 2.
Big vote
The future of the Union City Body Company will be decided Friday.
Members of United Auto Workers Local 494 will begin voting on a tentative contract agreement at 10 a.m. at the Randolph County Fairgrounds. Local union leaders are recommending approval of the new contract.
An earlier contract proposal was rejected 372-4 on Jan. 25, and the parent company, Grand Vehicle Works Holdings, was preparing to move production to North Carolina.
Arrested
A St. Marys, Ohio man was arrested Monday by Jay County police of non-support of a dependent child, a class D felony.
A Jay Superior Court warrant was issued March 27, 2003 for the arrest of Michael M. Miller, 24, 330 Defiance Road.
When the case was filed on Feb. 28, 2003, he owed approximately $18,000 in back child support, according to information from the Jay County prosecutor’s office.
Miller was released later Monday from the Jay County Jail on $3,000 bond.
Course
Jay County Emergency Management Agency will host a free class on Thursday, Feb. 26 to train storm spotters.
In preparation for Severe Weather Week, March 14-20, the National Weather Service of Northern Indiana will teach a basic course in the Jay County Courthouse auditorium at 6 p.m.
This course is a prerequisite for the intermediate and advanced classes and will provide a basic understanding of how to recognize severe weather. The primary goal of this course is to assist the Jay County EMA to train local residents how to recognize, report and prepare for potential severe weather.
This course is open to the public and all safety service agencies.
