CORRECTION
The regional spelling bee for elementary and middle schools will be held Saturday, March 13, at 8:30 a.m. at the Horizon Convention Center, Muncie. Students from Jay, Blackford, Randolph and Delaware Counties will compete. The date was incorrect in Friday’s edition of The Commercial Review.
MEETING
Jay County Habitat for Humanity members will meet Thursday at 7 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 323 S. Meridian St., Portland. The family that has been chosen for the 2004 build will be announced.
BURGLARY
Portland police are investigating a burglary at an East Race Street home reported Tuesday afternoon.
Joseph Coffel, 612 E. Race St., told police at 3:34 p.m. that a six-string guitar, a sound board and $100 in cash were stolen from his home sometime between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Entry was made through a door on the east side of the residence.
A total value of the items missing from Coffel’s home was not listed on a report by Portland police.
DEER ACCIDENT
A pick-up truck driven by a rural Ridgeville woman struck a deer in Pike Township on Tuesday at 7 a.m.
Cynthia M. Garringer, 38, 7289 South 325 West, was driving east on county road 650 South, about 1,000 feet west of county road 100 West, when the deer came onto the road.
Damage to her 1997 Ford F-150, also registered to Richard Garringer, same address as driver, was estimated at less than $750. Jay County police investigated this accident.
VANDALISM
A Portland woman reported damage to a shed at her home on Tuesday morning.
Amy Alper, 515 S. Wayne St., told police at 7:18 a.m. Tuesday that the door to her shed had been forced open.
Alper reported nothing missing from the shed.[[In-content Ad]]
