PENSION MEETINGS
The city of Portland police and fire pension boards will both meet Monday.
The fire department pension board will meet at 7 a.m. in the meeting room at the Portland Fire Department, located behind Wal-Mart at 1616 N. Franklin St.
The police department pension board will meet at 10 a.m. in the upstairs meeting room of Portland City Hall, 321 N. Meridian St.
THEFT
A 18-year-old Portland male was detained by employees of LoBill Foods and interviewed by Portland police on suspicion of shoplifting early this morning.
An employee of the grocery store saw the teenager stick a magazine in the pocket of his coat at 1:16 a.m. The manager and another employee stopped the teen at the front of the store and escorted him to a lounge and called Portland police.
After being informed of his rights, the teen signed a waiver and a statement and was released to the custody of his parents.
Also recovered were a bottle of No-Doz and a bottle of headache medicine. Total value of the items was $17.19.
ICY ACCIDENT
A Portland man was involved in a one-vehicle accident on Tuesday at 4:51 p.m. on private property at 2699 West Ind. 26 in Greene Township.
Michael L. Roser, 47, 2699 West Ind. 26, was traveling in his driveway and turned toward his garage when his truck began sliding on ice. He told police he couldn’t get his truck stopped and slid into the door of a barn on the property. The barn is owned by Mel Smitley, 2793 West Ind. 26, Portland.
Estimated damage to Roser’s 1979 Dodge Ram pickup truck was less than $1,000.
CITY ACCIDENTS
Portland police investigated two accidents Tuesday afternoon. The first occurred at 1:29 p.m. at 802 N. Meridian St., Portland.
Julia L. Morrison, 35, 122 Honeysuckle Lane, Portland, was backing out of a parking space in the CVS parking lot when she collided with a vehicle driven by Clara J. Shaneyfelt, 68, 3113 N. Elgin St., Muncie, who pulling into the parking lot.
Estimated damages to Morrison’s 1999 Pontiac Grand Am and Shaneyfelt’s 1995 Pontiac Grand Am were between $2,500 and $5,000.
The second accident happened at 3:38 p.m. on Meridian Street near Seventh Street.
Raymond A. Bright, 56, 3259 North 400 East, Winchester, was southbound on Meridian Street just north of Seventh Street, when he looked away from the road. When he looked back, a vehicle driven by Roy E. Blunk, 78, 593 West 275 South, Portland, was stopped in the path of Bright’s vehicle. Bright told police he couldn’t stop in time to avoid a collision.
Blunk told police a vehicle traveling in front of him stopped suddenly to turn into a driveway, and then Bright’s vehicle collided with his vehicle from behind.
Estimated damages to Bright’s 1998 Mercury car and Blunk’s 1995 GMC pick-up were between $1,000 and $2,500.
BLUFFTON ACCIDENT
A parked vehicle owned by a Portland resident was struck by a vehicle that left the scene Monday night in Bluffton.
The vehicle, owned by Randy N. Haffner, Portland, sustained an estimated $1,000 to $2,500 in damage in the incident, which happened about 9 p.m. in the parking lot of Poore Bros. on West Dustman Road.[[In-content Ad]]
