VANDALISM
Jay County police investigated a report of vandalism that occurred sometime between Dec. 27 and Jan. 6, at the home of Dinah Strohl, 4057 South 1000 West, Redkey.
Strohl reported to police at 1:59 p.m. Tuesday that she found two window screens on her home that had been cut. One was on the south side of her home, and the other was in an east side window. Entry to the house was not gained, and nothing appeared to be missing.
A sliding door on a 1980 Chevrolet van also was open as well, but nothing was missing.
CHIMNEY FIRE
Portland firefighters were called to a Portland home Tuesday at 1:28 a.m. for a chimney fire.
Firefighters were called to the home owned by Tom Hicks, 628 N. Alexander St.
The fire, which did not spread into the rest of the home, was caused by creosote build-up in the flue pipe of the chimney.
Ten firefighters responded to the call with two trucks.
TRANSFORMER DAMAGED
A transformer in the back storage area of Lobill Foods in Portland blew up this morning.
Portland firefighters responded to the 9 a.m. call with two trucks.
No one was injured by the blast that blew the door off the electrical panel located in the rear of the store, 218 W. Lincoln St. The store didn’t not lose power following the blast, and an electrician was called to repair the transformer.
Five Portland firefighters responded.
ACTIVITY LOG
Geneva police unlocked 11 vehicles in December and completed 159 business security checks and 32 home checks.
Police also investigated five animal complaints, completed one vehicle title check and issued 17 speeding citations, one failure to stop citation, two false and fictitious registration citations, one no proof of insurance citation and one citation for no valid license.
Citations also were issued for an expired license plate, a passing violation, driving left of center and leaving the scene of an accident. Two citations for driving while license suspended also were issued.
Thirteen warnings were issued for speeding.
Police also investigated six property damage accidents, delivered one message, investigated one suspicious vehicle, issued three gun permits and served two arrest warrants.
Geneva police also assisted Berne police three times, Adams County Sheriff’s Department seven times and Geneva Fire Department once.[[In-content Ad]]
