Correction
A story about a Portland City Council meeting that appeared in Tuesday's edition of The Commercial Review contained incorrect information.
The city of Portland will receive about $7,800 less from the state in 2009 and $78,000 less in 2010 because of House Bill 1001.

Hits drainpipe
A rural Redkey teenager's vehicle received damage estimated at $1,000 to $2,500 when it went off the road and struck a drainpipe in Wayne Township about midnight Tuesday.
Dillion M. Byers, 17, 10135 West 800 South, told Jay County police he was driving south on Blaine Pike, north of county road 200 South. He thought he was too close to the centerline, so he swerved west. The 1993 Chevrolet Camaro slid sideways then went off the west side of the road, where struck a drainage pipe and came to rest.
The accident occurred this morning and damaged the pipe, which is owned by the Jay County Highway Department.
Batteries stolen
A rural Portland woman reported the theft of several batteries recently.
Connie Truex, 3103 West 400 North, told Jay County police that seven car batteries and one lawn mower battery were stolen from her driveway. Truex said the theft occurred between 10 p.m. Monday and before 8:57 a.m. Tuesday.
She was at work when the theft occurred.
Bike stolen
A Portland resident told police someone stole his bicycle.
Heath Byerly, 530 W. Walnut St., Apt. 1, said the theft occurred between sometime on Sunday and sometime on Monday. He called Portland police Tuesday at 4:33 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
