Harold Gillett
Harold A. Gillett, 90, 2034 South U.S. 27, Portland, died Tuesday at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Born on June 17, 1917, in College Corner, to Albert and Eva (LaFollette) Gillett, he was married on Feb. 16, 1940, to Ruth D. Degler, who survives.
A member of the U.S. Army Air Corps serving during World War II on Iwo Jima, he was a carpenter and contractor.
He attended Asbury United Methodist Church and was a member of Jay Lodge No. 87 F.&A.M., Scottish Rite Shrine, American Legion Post No. 211, Portland Moose Lodge, Portland Elks Lodge and D.A.V.
Surviving besides his wife are Ruth are a son, James A. Gillett, Fountaintown; two daughters, Linda Borgerding, Franklin, Tenn., and Vickie Arford, Arlington, Tenn.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services are Friday at 10 a.m. at Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Rittenhouse officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Pennville with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 211.
Visitation is Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
