Capsule Reports
No meeting
The Portland Park Board was unable to conduct business Tuesday after failing to reach a quorum.
Only two of the board’s five members showed up for the meeting. The board is still waiting for Jay Schools to select a representative to replace Sandy Bubp, who resigned from the board in January.
The park board will meet next on April 3.
Cash stolen
A rural Portland woman reported that some cash was stolen from her van.
Angela Slack, 3386 E. Division Road, told police that a large amount of cash was taken out of the van while it was parked outside her home. The theft occurred sometime between 7 p.m. and midnight on Sunday.
Backed into
A Portland driver backed his SUV into a van on Western Avenue Monday morning.
Timmy J. Bennett, 43, 727 W. Race St., Portland, was backing out of a private drive onto Western Avenue. A northbound van driven by Priscilla J. McFarland, 58, 721 W. Arch St., Portland, attempted to stop to avoid hitting Bennett’s vehicle, but slid on the roadway and collided with the rear end of the SUV.
Estimated damage of $1,000 to $2,500 was caused to Bennett’s 2000 Chevrolet Blazer and McFarland’s 2005 Ford Freestar in the 7:21 a.m. accident.
In area courts
In Celina Municipal Court, Naomi Huntsman, 34, Portland, pleaded no contest to selling alcohol to a minor. She was fined $500 and assessed court costs.
Also in that court, Caleb M. Heitkamp, 18, Fort Recovery, pleaded no contest to underage possession or consumption. He was fined $100 and assessed court costs.[[In-content Ad]]
