Cleon Hutchison
A memorial service for Cleon Hutchison, 95, Redkey, who died Monday at Miller’s Merry Manor in Dunkirk will be held on Thursday, June 23, at 2 p.m. at the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home.
Born in Salamonia on Sept. 1, 1909, to Martin V. and Bertha (Worgum) Hutchison, he graduated from Madison Township High School in 1928. He also graduated from Ball State Teacher’s College in 1935.
He taught high school business and coached baseball and basketball from 1935 to 1939. He later taught at Winchester from 1939 to 1941.
He married Marceil Hodge on Dec. 31, 1941. She survives.
Serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp as a Captain from 1941 to 1945, he later owned and operated the Hutchison Insurance Agency in Redkey until retiring in 1979.
Memberships include Redkey Main Street Methodist Church; the Dunkirk Elks Lodge; the American Legion of Redkey; 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge of Redkey; Scottish Rite of Fort Wayne and a 50 year member of the Portland Country Club, where he was club golf champion three times.
Survivors include his wife Marceil; a son, Robert Hutchison, Indianapolis; a daughter, Mrs. Peter (Ruth Ann) Fleming, Lighthouse Point, Fla.; three granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters.
Nila Cupp
Nila R. Cupp, 69, Winchester, a Jay County native, died early today at her home.
Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Winchester.
Visitation is Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church.
Walker Funeral Home in Winchester is in charge of the arrangements.
James Spaulding
James H. Spaulding, 84, 120 Pilgrim Drive, died today at Jay County Hospital.
Born in Breckinridge County, Ky. on April 11, 1921, to Roe and Stella (Fentress) Spaulding, he married Ellen Marie Sweet on July 11, 1942.
A U.S. Air Force veteran who served in World War II, he was the plant manager for National By Products in Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri.
Survivors in addition to his wife are three sons, Dennis Spaulding, Portland, David Spaulding, South Bend, and Richard Spaulding, Parker City; and five grandchildren.
Graveside services are Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Hudson Cemetery in Hudson, Ill. with Pastor Denita Parre officiating.
Baird-Freeman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
