James Simos

April 16, 1931-Nov. 3, 2008

A celebration of life service for James O. Simos, 77, 6594 West Ind. 67, Redkey, will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at First Community Baptist Church of Redkey with Pastor Justin Simos officiating. He died Monday at Ball Memorial Hospital after a battle with cancer.

Born in Muncie to Gus and Idell (Campbell) Simos, he was married on Nov. 12, 1954, to Loretta M. Hickey, who survives.

A veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict, he retired in 1992 from Borg Warner/Warner Gear in Muncie after 42 years of service.

Memberships include First Community Baptist Church of Redkey, I.O.F. Foresters and Ridgeville American Legion Post No. 507.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Nicholas O. Simos, Redkey; three daughters, Mrs. Mike (Jamia M.) Oakley, West Union, S.C., Mrs. Randy (Fonda L.) Miller, Ridgeville, and Mrs. Herb (Gladys) Funk, Polk City, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Jim (Katherine) Paschall, Muncie; a brother, Tom Simos, Albany; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory, north of Muncie, with military graveside rites conducted by Ridgeville American Legion Post NO. 507.

Memorials may be sent to the Jay County Cancer Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.

April Guy

Feb. 6, 1976-Nov. 3, 2008

April Nicole (Lea) Guy, 32, Marmaduke, Ark., died Monday after a battle with heart problems. She lived most of her childhood in Redkey.

Born in Muncie, she was the daughter of David and Linda Scott, Marmaduke, and Mike Lea, Russellville, Ark.

Her husband William Guy survives.

Other survivors include three brothers, Tiffany Scott, Lafe, Ark., Shawnta Bickford, Beech Grove, Ark., and Nikki Howard, Piggott, Ark.; a brother, Kristopher Lea, Russellville; mother and father-in-law, Susan Guy and John Guy, both of Muncie; grandparents, Vivian Baugh, Dunkirk, Joanne Charles, Muncie, and George and Barbara Scott, Marmaduke.

Services are Friday at 10 a.m. at Irby Funeral Home in Marmaduke with Kim Bridges and Gary Morris officiating. Burial will be in Hartsoe Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rex Darrah

Aug. 3, 1926-Nov. 3, 2008

Rex J. Darrah, 82, Berne, died Monday at Persimmon Ridge in Portland.

Born in Albion, Iowa, to Samuel J. and Hazel (Brown) Darrah, he was married on June 6, 1953, to Grace (Thompson) Darrah, who survives in Geneva.

A veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II, he was a retired truck driver.

Surviving besides his wife two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Suzette) Wills, Marble Falls, Texas, and Sharon L. Crago, Geneva; a son, Richard Jay Darrah, Lake Mary, Fla.; a sister, Irene Laws, Iowa; and two grandchildren.

Ina Fetters

Dec. 25, 1918-Nov. 4, 2008

Ina Fetters, 89, formerly of 508 Fremont St. in Fort Recovery, died Tuesday at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home in Coldwater, Ohio.

Born in Portland to James A. and Minerva Holly, her husband Orville "Joe" Fetters died on Dec. 30, 1974.

She retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., St. Marys, Ohio.

Survivors include a nephew, James Harker, Dunkirk; and several other nieces and nephews.

Services are Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at W.H. Dick and Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Celina, Ohio, with the Rev. Mark Wakeland officiating. Burial will be in Swamp College Cemetery in Celina.

Visitation is one hour prior to services on Thursday at the funeral home.

Leona Koesters

Aug. 30, 1918-Nov. 1, 2008

A funeral Mass was held today for Leona E. Koesters, 90, St. Henry, Ohio. The relative of a Fort Recovery woman, she died Saturday at Lima Memorial Hospital.

Born in St. Peter, Ohio, to Philip and Anna (Braun) Wendel, she was married on April 29, 1944, to Richard C. Koesters, who died on Aug. 20, 1980.

Survivors include two sons; two daughters; a foster sister; a sister-in-law, Laura Wendel, Fort Recovery; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Coldwater, Ohio, was in charge of the arrangements. Burial was in St. Aloysius Cemetery.

Max Rathbun

Jan. 16, 1921-Nov. 5, 2008

Max L. Rathbun, 87, 745 Patriot Drive, Portland, died early today at Ball Memorial Hospital.

Born in Jay County to Herschel and Ruth (Fraser) Rathbun, he was married on Oct. 30, 1942, to Anna Louise Hildreth who died on March 16, 1992.

A veteran of the United States Army, he served during World War II as a medic in the South Pacific.

He was named United Way Volunteer of the Year in 2007 and coached junior league baseball for many years. Retiring from the U.S. Postal Service after 38 years, he attended First Church of the Brethren in Portland.

Survivors includea son, Bill Rathbun, Portland; a daughter, Mrs. Ned (Linda) Rees, Portland; a brother, David Rathbun, New Palistine; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services are Saturday at 10 a.m. at Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin McClung officiating. Burial will be in Green Park Cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to the donor's choice.
