J. Lorraine Burgess

J. Lorraine Burgess, 48, 308 E. Main St., Bryant, died Tuesday evening in the Jay County Hospital.

Born in Portland to Dick and Jean (Shawver) Rines on Nov. 5, 1954, she was married on April 5, 1985 to Dean Burgess who survives.

She worked at Createc in Portland.

Other survivors include a son, Dean L. Burgess, Bryant; a daughter, Amanda C. Robinson, Decatur; her parents, Dick and Jean, Portland; a brother, Rick Rines, Portland; two sisters, Leeanne Davidson, Portland and Judy Comstock, Decatur.

Services are Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with the Rev. Marty Sandhage presiding. Burial will follow in the Little Salamonia Cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Jay County Heart Fund or the Jay County Cancer Society.

Robert Turner

Robert “Bob” Lamoine Turner, 72, Hartford City, died early Tuesday morning at Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie, following an extended illness. He was the relative of Portland residents.

Born on June 22, 1931 to Raymond and Lucille (Snapp) Turner in Matthews, he married Catherine L. Mattingly on March 31, 1951 in Hartford City. She died Oct. 4, 1989.

Retired from Thompson Consumer Electric (formerly RCA) in June 1991 after 37 1/2 years of service, he was a member of the Ki-Ann Golf Club, Hartford City, the Moyer-Pooler American Legion No. 159, Hartford City, and the RCA-TCE Sympathy Club, Marion.

Surviving are two daughters, including Mrs. Larry (Janice D.) Guntle, Portland; a brother; a sister, Catherine M. Turner, Portland; a companion, Della Hornbaker, Hartford City; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Keplinger Funeral Home, Hartford City, with the Rev. Stephen F. Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Jefferson Cemetery, Upland. Graveside military services will be conducted by the Moyer-Pooler American Legion Post No. 159.

Visitation is Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until services begin at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Tri Kappa Cancer Fund of Blackford County.[[In-content Ad]]
