Interviews

The search continues for a chief executive officer at Jay County Hospital with an executive session scheduled for JCH board members to interview applicants.

The board will meet Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 7 a.m. for interviews. An earlier executive session for interviews on Oct. 16 has been canceled.

Performing

Tickets are still available for a 7:30 p.m. performance Friday by the Sisters of the DisOrder at Arts Place in Portland.

The performance follows the Arts Place annual meeting.

Sisters of the DisOrder is a group of 12 women who combine humor and music while dressed as nuns. Founded in 1998, the group has performed in Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus, and throughout west central Ohio. Fees earned by the performers are donated to local charities.

Tickets for the performance are $6 for adults and $4 for students and are available at Arts Place, (260) 726-4809.

Meet them

A “meet the candidates night” is planned for Monday, Oct. 20, in Dunkirk City Hall.

Both Democrat and Republican city election candidates will be speaking, and there will also be a question and answer period.

All Dunkirk citizens are invited to attend this meeting, beginning at 7 p.m.

Unruly buck

The Planet Kidz clothing store in Linden, N.J., just had one tough customer: A rowdy deer.

According to The Associated Press, the full-grown, antlered buck wandered in, then wandered around Monday for more than an hour, showing its appreciation for the merchandise by knocking down shelves and trampling clothes.

A few customers were inside, but they quickly left and no one was hurt, said head manager Joseph Velelis.

He said he tried to calm the deer down by talking to it, but the animal panicked and charged toward the back of the store.

At one point, the deer, which weighed between 160 and 180 pounds, approached a full-length mirror and apparently thinking its reflection was another deer, jumped into the mirror front hooves first.

Linden authorities contacted the closest emergency unit with a tranquilizer gun, a Staten Island-based NYPD team.

Team members fired three tranquilizer darts, and the officers were able to subdue the animal and carry it out.
