Donald Miller
Donald A. Miller, 79, AmeriCare Living Center, Portland, died Tuesday evening at the Jay County Hospital following an extended illness.
Born on Feb. 29, 1924 in Piqua, Ohio, to Arthur and Florence (Allison) Miller, he served in the U.S. Army following World War II and during the Korean War. He married Leatha P. Bickel on July 12, 1958. She died Nov. 2, 1997.
After working for more than 40 years at the Portland Forge, he retired.
He was a member of the Blaine United Methodist Church, the Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association and the Blacksmith Union at the Forge.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Douglas (Marilyn) Somers, rural Portland; a son, William A. Miller, Muncie; a sister, Julia Thomas, Hohenwald, Tenn.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are Friday at 10 a.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home with the Rev. Linda K. Philabaun officiating. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Twin Hills Cemetery, Pennville.
The Portland American Legion Post 211 will conduct full military graveside rites.
Visitation is Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
