BURGLARY

Portland police are investigating the theft of $1,200 from a West Main Street home-based business.

Gary Williams, 804 W. Main St., told Portland police Tuesday that the cash was stolen from his business, House of Time, located in his home.

He told police that theft of the cash — all in $100 bills — occurred sometime between Sept. 5 and Sept. 9.

COUNTY ACCIDENT

Semis driven by Ohio residents collided today at 6:45 a.m. in Wabash Township.

Richard A. Schemmel, 42, 69 Circle Drive, New Bremen, Ohio, told Jay County police he had just turned onto Ind. 67 from county road 700 East.

Robert W. Oakleaf, 56, 408 Redwood St., Beach City, Ohio, also turned on Ind. 67 from county road 700 East after Schemmel and failed to see Schemmel’s semi trailer before his truck hit the trailer.

Schemmel told police that he saw Oakleaf approaching the rear of his trailer and attempted to move to the left side of the road to avoid the accident, but could not.

Combined damage to Schemmel’s trailer, registered to Robert G. Owen Trucking, 6290 Eric Ave., Beach City, Ohio, and Oakleaf’s 1996 semi, registered to Daniel L. Winner, 6183 Ohio 705, New Weston, Ohio, was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.[[In-content Ad]]
