MEETING

The Redkey Town Board will hold an executive meeting on Thursday, Sept. 4, at 6 p.m. at the town hall for personnel evaluations.

COUNTY ACCIDENT

A vehicle driven by a rural Portland man collided with a deer Tuesday at 9:42 p.m. in Pike Township.

James E. Brewster, 22, 086 West 500 South, told Jay County police he was traveling north on U.S. 27, near the intersection of county road 700 South, when he was unable to avoid a deer that entered the roadway.

Brewster was driving a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix that sustained an estimated $750 to $1,000 in damage.

THEFT REPORTS

A rural Portland woman told Portland police that her purse was stolen from McDonald’s Restaurant in Portland on Tuesday.

Sara Harris, 6120 West 300 South, told Portland Police that her purse was stolen at McDonalds, 618 N. Meridian St. She was at the restaurant around noon and returned at 1:45 p.m. to see if anybody had returned the purse.

The Tommy Hilfiger purse contained her driver’s license, checkbook, credit card, $25 and a cell phone.

A Portland woman reported several items stolen from her home during a period from Saturday through Tuesday.

Rita Rouch, 532 N. Western Ave., told Portland Police that on Saturday, Aug. 30 she discovered $45 and a blank check had been stolen from her home.

Then, on Monday, Sept. 1, Rouch discovered that a diamond ring, valued at $1,000, was missing from her bathroom counter. She went to Portland police on Tuesday to report the thefts and when she returned home she discovered that contents of one of her jewlery boxes was scattered across a dresser.

A pocket knife was reported missing from one of the jewlery boxes.[[In-content Ad]]
