Well Child clinic to open

The Jay County Well Child Clinic will be open next week.

The clinic, located at 521 S. Wayne St., Portland, will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16 for Jay County residents only.

Its services include youth and children physical examinations, tuberculosis testing, lead screening, and children’s developmental delay screenings.

Appointments are needed for physical exams and TB tests.

The clinic is open to families who are without insurance or are under-insured. There is a sliding fee scale of up to $20, depending on family income.

GRADUATES IN UNIFORM

One of those receiving a diploma Sunday at Jay County High School’s commencement exercises proudly wore his Air Force uniform rather than the traditional cap and gown.

Airman Zachary B. Emerick came home on a 72-hour leave to take part in graduation. He had completed his high school education and entered basic training back in January.

In March, Emerick graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

He also earned credits toward an associate’s degree through Community College of the Air Force.

He’s the son of Brook and Lisa Emerick, Portland.

SUPPORT GROUP

State of the Heart Home Health and Hospice is launching a summer Grief Support Group beginning on Monday, June 21.

The support group will be meeting for five consecutive Mondays at the hospice office at 809 W. Main St., Coldwater, Ohio, from 6 to 8 p.m.

SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE

The deadline for this year’s seventh and eighth graders to apply for the Twenty-first Century Scholars program is coming up.

Students interested in the program, which pays full tuition for eight semesters of college for students from low to middle income families, must apply by June 30.

Students must keep a pledge to maintain a C average or better, remain drug and alcohol free, graduate from high school, and attend an Indiana public university or technical school. Eligibility is based on family income.

STUDENTS HONORED

Kristin Sprunger, Geneva, was recently honored as the outstanding graduate in industrial technology at Ball State University, and Megan Rinker, Redkey, was honored as the outstanding graduate in the graphic arts management program. Both were selected by a vote of the faculty.

Sprunger is the daughter of Randall and Sara Sprunger, Geneva. Rinker is the daughter of Mike and Cynthia Rinker, Redkey.[[In-content Ad]]
