Wenning selected to MAC first team (10/21/2008)

Three Indians picked up honors when the All-Midwest Athletic Conference volleyball teams were named Monday.

Kinsey Wenning was the lone first-team selection for Fort Recovery. Joanna Snyder was named to the second team, and Nicole Pottkotter earned honorable mention.

New Bremen took home both top honors, with Jaclyn Dabbelt winning Player of the Year and Lisa Thobe as Coach of the Year.

Wenning was among the leading attackers in the area, finishing with a team-best 223 kills. She was also second on the team with 34 blocks.

Snyder was second for the Indians in digs with 187, and also added 146 kills. Pottkotter finished with 288 assists, 176 digs, 129 kills and 30 blocks.

Six win judo titles

MADISON - Six members of the Judan Judo club won championships this weekend at the Americas Cup Tournament.

Casey Kenney was first in the men's advanced 145 division, and Kelsi Bostic took the top spot in the women's middle weight division. Other first-place finishers were Amanda Buell (women's light weight), Jamie Chan (Men's novice 178), Caleb Culy (men's novice 145) and Gabriella Minnich (girls 11-12 middle weight).

Nathan Daniels finished in second place, and Logan Drumm, Abby Muhlenkamp and Adam Wilhelm all took third.

JC spikers 1-2 at invite

MARION - Jay County High School's volleyball team settled for a 1-2 finish in its final action before the sectional tournament.

The Patriots picked up their lone win in Saturday's Marion Invitational by a 21-25, 25-20, 15-7 score over Eastbrook. They lost 23-25, 25-22, 15-5 to the host Giants and 26-24, 25-12 to Northfield.

JCHS will play host Fort Wayne South Side in the first round of sectional action Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Kristi Morningstar led the Patriots (15-18) over Eastbrook with 13 points and 12 assists. Amy Alig totaled nine kills and three blocks, and Chelsea Grady had 20 digs.

Grady had 17 digs in the loss to Marion. Morningstar has 11 assists, Sarah Westgerdes notched nine kills and Kelsey Wood scored six points.

Westgerdes added eight kills against Northfield.

Seven Stars honored

The South Adams High School girls soccer team picked up seven All-Allen County Athletic Conference awards, including four first-team selections.

Leading scorer Ashton Morgan led a group of four Starfire seniors who were chosen for the All-ACAC first team. She was joined by classmates Madison Moore, Kinsey Lengerich and Jana Beitler.

Mackenzie Moser, Chelsey Roop and Katrina Hawkins were second-team selections.[[In-content Ad]]
