Wes-Del defeats Patriots (09/26/2008)
JCHS volleyball
GASTON - They were able to fight off a sweep. But the Patriots couldn't force a fifth game.
Jay County High School's volleyball team stayed close against the Class 1A No. 4 Wes-Del Warriors Thursday night, but fell 25-23, 25-18, 21-25, 25-21.
It was a much improved effort for the Patriots, who lost 25-9, 25-23 to Wes-Del Sept. 13 in tournament action at Noblesville.
Chelsea Grady paced JCHS, which slipped to 10-12, with 20 digs, seven points, one kill and one assist. Kelsey Wood had 13 digs and six kills, and Sarah Westgerdes finished with 10 kills and five blocks.
Liz Walker had a team-best nine points, Amy Alig finished with eight blocks and Ashley Langenkamp put up seven assists.
Junior varsity
The Warriors knocked off Jay County 25-12, 16-25, 15-10.
Kassi Hemmelgarn powered the Patriots (6-5) with eight assists, six points, three kills, three blocks and one dig. Taylor Burris added five points, three kills and three blocks.
Jen Dirksen totaled six digs and five points, Becky Muhlenkamp had five points and four kills and Alyssa Rigby came up with seven digs.[[In-content Ad]]
