West Jay announces honor roll (01/27/2009)
Taking Note
West Jay Middle School students were recently named to the honor roll for the second nine-week grading period.
Sixth grade students making the all A honor roll were Noah Claycomb, Lily Corcoran and Alexis Murrell.
Making the A-B honor roll in sixth grade were Emily Back, Brody Barcus, Mitch Bennett, Lexi Blumenhorst, Morgan Brown, Taylor Campbell, Lydia Dotson, Courtney Finnerty, Dakotah Hildebrandt, Bryttani Knight, Ashley Lowe, Hunter Malott, Kay Morgan, Dakota Pettus, Mariah Schaadt, Charles Shreeve, Kristen Simons, Triston VanSkyock, Tyra Westlake and Baliegh Wiemer.
Seventh graders making the A-B honor roll were Tiffany Barton, Brea Burcham, Rylee Clemmons, Kimbra Edwards, Dustin Foy, Brooke Hurst, Takoa Knight, Evan Masters, Chaz McClain, Ashley Motter and Sam Selvey.
Making the all A honor roll in eighth grade were Tasha McCowan, Clayton Scott and Shelby Wendel.

Book signing
Author and Jay County native Dianna L. Brisco will have a book signing for her book "The Day Marcus Flew" in February.
Brisco will be at Pennville Elementary School on Monday, Feb. 2. From 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. to sign copies of her book and to conduct a writer's workshop and story time.

Library news
* Story times at Jay County Public Library will be held Monday, Feb. 2, 9 and 16 at 10 a.m. and Tuesday, Feb. 3, 10 and 17 at 1 p.m. Children may attend with a parent or caregiver. There will be stories read, a song or flannelboard and a craft.
* An After School Special will be held Friday, Feb. 6, from 2:45 to 4 p.m. for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. There will be refreshments, a love story and a craft or two. Registration is required by Feb. 5.
* Any parent interested in forming or joining a play group/mother's group should contact Linda Shreve at the library at (260) 726-7890 or [email protected].
* Computer classes are being offered for preschoolers and their parents to play computer games together. Classes will be held Thursday, Feb. 5, at 11:15 a.m.; Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 6:15 p.m.; Monday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m. and Saturday, Feb. 28, at 10 a.m. Registration is required.
* The book reading group is reading "The Shack" by William P. Young. The group will meet on Feb. 16 at 7 p.m.
"Harvey" production
Samantha Freeman, Portland, is the props master for the upcoming presentation of the play "Harvey" at Huntington University's Studio Theatre of the Merillat Centre for the Arts at Huntington University. She is a sophomore majoring in theatre performance.
The play will be performed Feb. 5 and 6 at 7:30 p.m. and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 7.
Art Exhibit
Area high school students are invited to show their artwork at the fourth Annual High School Art Exhibit at Huntington University in February. The exhibit will be held at the Robert E. Wilson Gallery of the Merillat Centre for the Arts from Feb. 4 through the 19.
Students within a 150-mile radius of Huntington University may submit their works of art which must be original and created within the last year. Seniors who plan to attend the university as art majors may compete for Huntington University Department of Visual Arts 2009-2010 Performance Grants.
