West Jay honor roll named

Students at West Jay Middle School were named to the honor roll for the third nine-week grading period.
Sixth grade students named to the all A honor roll were Shelby Caldwell, Daniel Fugiett, Wyatt Geesaman and Matthew Paquette.
Making the A-B honor roll in sixth grade were Alexa Barrett, Conner Benter, Gabriel Blankenship, Karlie Bullard, Lexis Elston, Gabriel Faulkner, Randi Ferguson, Kendal Garringer, Dara Grove, Noah Harris, Lynsey Leeson, Kensey Litton, Ian McCombs, Dawn Minnick, Elizabeth Rose, Whitney Vaughn, Zackary Vaughn and Cherie Walter.
Seventh grade students named to the all A honor roll were Connor Davis, Desiree Duncan, Devin Foltz, Trent Fullenkamp, Holton Hill, Shelby McClain, Maxwell Moser, Jordan Stultz and Alexis Wisener.

Poet to visit library
Indiana poet Laureate Karen Kovacik will be the guest at two events on Friday at Jay County Public Library. Kovacik is a professor of English at IUPUI and directs the creative writing program.  
She will lead a workshop on image journaling from 4 to 5 p.m. for beginners and experienced writers. She will then read from her work and answer questions from 5 to 5:30 p.m. To register, call the library at (260) 726-7890.

Competed
Simon Brumfield, an eighth grade student at West Jay Middle School, competed in the Indiana Geographic Bee on April 5 at IUPUI. He is the son of Carlton and Brenda Brumfield.

Essay winner
Noah Claycomb, a homeschooled student from rural Pennville, was the winner of the Bluffton Optimist Club’s annual essay contest with the topic “How Can I Help My Friends Realize Their Value?”
He won a cash award and a certificate and his essay is now entered in the Indiana North District  competition.
