White's big games still leave South Adams short (04/26/04)

South Adams Roundup

Kyle White had yet another outstanding day, but it wasn’t enough to lead the South Adams baseball team to victory. The Starfires dropped their double-header against the Eastbrook Panthers Saturday, losing 13-4 and 10-7 in 10 innings.

The Starfires were in both games, trailing just 5-2 heading into the seventh inning of game one. However, Eastbrook scored eight times in the seventh inning to pull away.

South Adams trailed 7-5 in the second game, but forced extra innings with a pair of seventh-inning runs to tie the contest. However, the Panthers scored three times in the top of the 10th inning for the victory.

White carried the Starfire offense in both games. He finished the first game at 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Kyle Neuenschwander and Tony Van Gelder also had two hits.

White went on for a 2-for-4 performance, which included a double, in game two. He scored once and drove in three runs.

Neuenschwander and Lukas Baumgartner each had two hits. Baumgartner and Aaron Givens each scored once and drove in one run.

Neuenschwander took the game-one loss, and Tyler Sprunger was the losing pitcher in game two.

The Starfires also lost by a 7-1 score Friday night to the Woodlan Warriors. They held a brief 1-0 lead in the third inning, but gave up three runs in the bottom of the third, two in the fourth and two in the fifth for the final margin.

Neuenschwander finished 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored. White, Sprunger and Doug Roop each had a hit, and Justin Caffee drove in the only South Adams run with a sacrifice.

Sprunger took the defeat, allowing seven runs — six earned — in six innings. He gave up six hits and a walk while striking out three.
