Winchester Honda supplier expanding (04/21/07)

Business roundup

Ground was broken Thursday on the expansion of the Tomasco LLC plant in Winchester.

Officials gathered Thursday for the event, two months after Tomasco announced it would invest $20 million to expand and hire 125 new employees. The plant currently has 130 employees and produces metal hinges, locks, and brackets for Honda.

The Winchester plant is the first parts plant to expand because of Honda's arrival in Indiana. The plant has built parts for Honda since 2004 and now Honda makes up 98 percent of the company's business.

The 127,000-square foot expansion will bring a new production line to the Winchester operation. For the first time, Tomasco, which opened its local production plant in 1999, will build vehicle body parts. Production is expected by October 2008.
