Winners named from talent contest (07/10/07)
Taking Note
The Jay County July Fourth Committee held its annual talent contest on July fourth at Jay County Fairgrounds.
Winning first place in the 12 and younger category was Cheris Beitler. Trinity Whetstone won second place and Bridgett Cowan place third.
First place in the 13 and older category was awarded to Sarah Garringer and Derek Bailey. Kathy Newlin placed second and Kari Becktol won third place.

Also 50 runners participated in the 7th Annual Firecracker 5K Run. Winning first place in the 14 and younger category was Alysha Miller and Austin Bentz. Second place winners were Katie Simmons and Jacob Heitkamp and third place winners were Laura Bowen and Andrew Thomas.
Winning first place in the 15 to 24 age category was Allison Beitler and Tank Thieme. Winning second place were Alyssa Johnson and Josh Sprunger and third place winners were Cardie Garringer and Ian Thomas.
Winning first place in the 25 to 34 age category was Lisa Thomason and Shawn Roberts. Second place winner was Eric Lester and third place was Mike Weitzel.
Reunion planned
The South Adams graduating class of 1982 has planned a golf outing and 25th reunion.
The golf outing, to be held Friday, July 27, at Wabash Valley Golf Course in Geneva, will begin at 2 p.m. The cost is $30 and children of those attending the reunion, age 14 and older, may participate.
The reunion will be Saturday, July 28, from 5:30 to 11:30 p.m. at Grey Goose Golf Club in Decatur.
If anyone has information on graduates Mark Clark or Monica Clark, contact Mike Dull at [email protected]. Also contact Mike Dull if you did not receive an invitation. Reservations are due by Friday, July 20.
Barn concert
The group "When Rock Met Country" will perform a concert on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the barn at Swiss Heritage Village, 1200 Swiss Way in Berne.
The group will feature oldies from the 50's, 60's and 70's, with tributes to Elvis and Patsy Cline.
The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Bring a lawn chair. For more information, call (260) 589-8007.
Receives scholarship
Jessica Marie Heitkamp, Portland, received the Bruce Allen Long Scholarship at DePauw University in Greencastle. The scholarship is awarded to a sophomore majoring in economics and management who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and leadership potential.
Homecoming celebration
C&C Bible Fellowship, Berne, is having a Homecoming celebration on Friday, July 27, at 5:30 p.m. in honor of its 20th anniversary.
The Homecoming is for everyone who has attended the College and Career Program. Bring a covered dish. C & C is located at 4383 South 150 East. For more information, call (260) 589-9022.

Rhodes State College in Lima, Ohio, recently announced students who received associate's degrees following the spring quarter.
Laura Jean White, Dunkirk, received a degree in nursing.
From Fort Recovery: Angela Marie Fortkamp received a degree in nursing; Nicole J. Lamm and Megan L. Vogel both received degrees in dental hygiene; Lisa M. Stammen received a degree in physical therapist assisting.
Amber Lyn Ridgway and Nicole V. Schwieterman, both from Portland, received degrees in dental hygiene.
Dean's list
Rachel Walker, Portland, has made the dean's list in her eighth term at the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan.
A graduate of Jay County High School and Indiana University in Bloomington, she is the daughter of Patricia Walker.
Training course
The Hoosier Heartland Chapter of the American Red Cross will have an Emergency Response Vehicle training course on Tuesday, July 17, from 6 to 10 p.m.
The course is to prepare drivers to safely and effectively use an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) and its equipment to meet the needs of people affected by disaster.
