WJ boys knock off Eastbrook

MARION — Both Eagle teams continued their strong seasons Thursday.
The West Jay Middle School seventh grade boys basketball team picked up its seventh victory, topping the host Eastbrook Panthers 35-27. The eighth grade squad had two players score in double figures as it also won, 42-31.
Cole Stigleman had team highs of 14 points and six rebounds as the WJMS seventh graders improved to 7-2. Jordan Stultz added six points, and Connor Davis grabbed seven boards.
Spencer Calvert and Andrew Trewyn finished with 17 and 12 points respectively to power the West Jay eighth grade squad (6-3). Justin Crouch followed with eight points.

East Jay girls win
DECATUR — The East Jay girls basketball teams each allowed just two first-quarter points Thursday as the eighth grade squad topped host St. Joe 39-31 while the seventh graders took a 28-12 victory.
Taylor Homan and Britlyn Dues each scored 10 points for the eighth grade Chiefs, who led 12-2 after the opening period. Catera Gierhart was right behind them with nine points.
Betsy Muhlenkamp racked up 16 points for the EJMS seventh grade squad, which was up by nine after the first quarter. Taylor Muhlenkamp added six points.

Cox leads Indians
ROCKFORD, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s eighth grade boys basketball team picked up a 43-37 victory Thursday over the host Parkway Panthers. The seventh grade squad lost 27-15.
Micaiah Cox racked up 21 points as he led the Indian eighth graders, who improved to 7-2. Jason Roessner joined him in double figures with 12 points, and Caleb Martin scored eight.
Ryan Braun and Cade Wendel each scored five points for the FRMS seventh grade squad (5-4). Aaron Homan and Evan Post added two points apiece.

WJMS 8th girls roll
DUNKIRK — The West Jay eighth grade girls basketball team had a strong evening on defense Thursday as it handed visiting South Adams a 23-7 defeat. The seventh grade squad lost, 39-10.
Sami Back and Kyndal Miller both single-handedly outscored the Starfires in the eighth grade game. Back finished with 10 points, and Miller added nine.
Hannah Ault totaled five points to lead the WJMS seventh graders. Kady Finnerty scored four points.

Chiefs split with Driver
East Jay’s eighth grade boys basketball team knocked off visiting Driver (Winchester) for a 38-35 victory Thursday. The seventh grade Chiefs fell 37-33.
Ryan Burkett led three EJMS eighth graders in double figures with 13 points as the team improved to 8-1. Jay Houck followed with 12 points, and Dylan Martin scored 10.
Ethan Myers poured in 17 points for the seventh grade squad, which fell to 3-6. Noah Hummel added seven points.[[In-content Ad]]
