The West Jay Middle School wrestling team scored all of its points with pins as it edged county rival East Jay 48-45 Monday night.
Justin Love (125) led the Eagles with a pin in 45 seconds as the team improved its season record to 9-1. Justin Tighe (110) added a pin in 49 seconds, and Bryce Bantz (90) and Carrolton Fischer (145) also ended their matches in less than a minute.
Chase Louck (120), Lucas Wiemer (135), Dylan Harris (160) and Daniel Ring (160) added pins in the West Jay victory.
East Jay's Brandon Ferner had the quickest pin of the night overall, finishing his 152-pound match in 36 seconds. Conner Ray (80), Brandon Poore (115) and Kyle Garringer (175) also turned in pins, and Corey Bellis (105) won by a 7-3 decision.
Exhibition wins were to West Jay's J.P. Fischer (85), Raistlin Rice (105) and Daniel Ring (HWT), and East Jay's Hunter Gillette (115), Steve Strohl (120), Eric Hemmelgarn (175), Logan Antrim (HWT) and Nick Spahr (HWT).
JC falls to Northside
Jay County's middle school boys swim team lost 175-56 Monday to Muncie Northside.
Zane Shreve turned in the only two victories for Jay County, taking first place in the 100-yard individual medley by nearly four seconds in 1-minute, 16.59 seconds. He also won the 100 breaststroke at 1:23.52.
Evan Mathias was second in the 100 backstroke, and Zach James finished as the runner-up in the 50 freestyle.
Shreve wins LJ
HUNTINGTON - Dexter Shreve led the Patriot Track Club as it competed Sunday at the Huntington Track Club Indoor Meet.
Shreve, a Jay County High School senior, was a state qualifier in the long jump last season and won the event at 19 feet, 6¾ inches. He was second in the high jump at 6 feet, 4 inches, and also placed sixth in the 400 dash at 55.32.
Tevan Nichols finished fifth in the 800 run in 2-minutes, 18 seconds and sixth in the 1,600 run in 5:02.
