WJ honor roll announced

Taking Note

The following students were named to the honor roll at West Jay Middle School.

Making the A honor roll in sixth grade were Noah Claycomb, Ashley Lowe, Kay Morgan and Alexis Murrell.

Sixth grade students making the A-B honor roll were Randi Auker, Emily Back, Brody Barcus, Mitch Bennett, Lexi Blumenhorst, Morgan Brown, Taylor Campbell, Dakotah Chambers, Lily Corcoran, Courtney Finnerty, Vernon Goodman, Bryttani Knight, Hunter Malott, Mariah Schaadt, Charles Shreeve and Kristen Simons.

Making the A honor roll in seventh grade were Brea Burcham, Rylee Clemmons and Keenan James.

Seventh grade students making the A-B honor roll were Tiffany Barton, Kaylee Bullard-Rodeffer, Kimbra Edwards, Jenna Ferguson, Betsy Huffman, Brooke Hurst, Evan Masters, Toby McCallister, Chaz McClain and Ashley Motter.

Making the A honor roll in eighth grade was Shelby Wendel.

Eighth grade students making the A-B honor roll were Tyler Back, Lynsay Buckland, Audrey Hall, Courtney Knight, Sara Lennartz, Tasha McCowan, Lee Mock, Laura Morrison, Clayton Scott and Joshua Wolford.

Summer reading

Registration for the summer reading programs at Jay County Public Library has begun and will continue through June 20.

"Be Creative" is for infants through fifth grade students; "Express Yourself @ your library" is for teens in sixth to 12th grade.

Monday programs will begin at 11 a.m.; story times will be at 10 a.m. on June 11 and 25 and July 9; Friday crafts will be at 2 p.m.; a family program will be Saturday, June 20, at 2 p.m.; teen programs will be Tuesday, June 16 and 30 and July 14 at 6:30 p.m. and home activity sheets will be available each Wednesday.

Receives scholarship

Sydney Renee Arnold received a $1,000 scholarship from the National Tractor Parts Dealer Association. She is the daughter of Pastor Steve and Lisa Arnold, Portland, and plans to attend Anderson University to study nursing.



Dean's list

Two Geneva residents made the dean's list at Goshen College for the spring semester.

Kathy A. Steiner, a 2005 graduate of South Adams High School. She is a senior majoring in physics.

Kristen J. Steiner, a 2007 graduate of South Adams High School. She is a sophomore majoring in molecular biology.

Kathy and Kristen are the daughters of George and Anna Steiner, Geneva.

Julie Alig, Isaac Marchand and Calah Redwine, all of Portland, have made the dean's list at Indiana State University in Terre Haute.

Girl's State

Kari Hemmelgarn and Holly Rittenhouse were chosen as Girl's State delagates throught the Portland American Legion Auxiliary.

Hemmelgarn is the daughter of Doug and Karen Hemmelgarn, Portland.

She is a nine-year 4-H member; vice president of the National Honor Society; secretary of her class; a member of the varsity cross country and track team; a varsity cheerleader; a Campus Life leader; FFA chaplain and a student council member.

Rittenhouse is the daughter of the Rev. Greg and Jan Rittenhouse, Portland.

She played two years of golf on the junior varsity team; three-year all-state choir member, choir librarian and secretary; ACDA honor choir; State ISSMA; Student Council member; sophomore class vice president; junior class prom committee member; Student Council Historical Committe Chair; Academic Honor Roll for three years; National Honor Society member; and sang in several musicals.



New members

Bradley J. Green and Bailee M. Green, both of Bryant, have recently became members of the American Junior Shorthorn Association in Omaha, Neb. The AJSA is an organization for youth in the livestock industry.

Computer classes

Computer classes will be held each Thursday in June at APLS in Geneva from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday's class will be Intro to the Internet, Intro to Word will be on June 18 and Word-Beyond the Basics will be on June 25. Classes are free. To register, call 368-7270.

Nominations

The Indiana Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives is seeking nominations for the Governor's Awards for Volunteer Service. The awards will be presented during the Governor's Conference of Service and Volunteerism Oct. 29 and 30 in Indianapolis.
