WJMS names students of the month

West Jay Middle School recently named its Students of the month for October.

In sixth grade was Emilie Walter, the daughter of Allen and Stacie Walter.

In seventh grade was Noah Claycomb, the son of Matthew and Tonya Claycomb.

In eighth grade was Jon Weaver, the son of Dan and Renee Weaver.

Story times

Jay County Public Library will have story times on Monday, Nov. 16, 23 and 30 at 10 a.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 17 and 24 at 1 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Story times will include four or five books being read aloud, finger plays, flannel board rhymes and a craft.

Holiday show

Holiday Show 2009 will begin at Arts Place in Portland Friday and continue through Dec. 23.

The show, to be held in the Hugh N. Ronald Gallery, will feature handmade artisan items perfect for holiday giving.

Jewelry, ceramics, paintings, woodworking and photography will be featured by artists Zoe Hill, Becca James, Gene Knox, Steve McClung, Zach Medler, Ralph Stuckman, Barb Stump, Mark Twigg and Innovations students.

To perform

Samantha Freeman will be in the ensemble and help in the costume run crew of "Beauty and the Beast," presented by Huntington University Department of Theatre Arts.

Freeman is a junior theatre performance major from Portland.

Performances will be held at Huntington University's Merillat Centre for the Arts in the Zurcher Auditorium on Nov. 12, 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21 at 7:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. matinees on Nov. 14 and 21.

Exhibition

Local resident Betty Settle Drinkut, a stereographer, had three photographs accepted at the Chicago Lighthouse 61st International Exhibition of Stereo Photography.

The three photographs entitled "Biddies on the Porch," and "Faithful Friend," both anaglyphs and "Spring Tulips," a stereocard, will be on display Nov. 20 and 21 at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Rice Campus and Oakton Community College, Skokie Campus.

All profits go to the Chicago Lighthouse for People Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired.

Geneva firefighters

Geneva Volunteer Fire Department members Art Booth and Ryan Stahly recently traveled to New York City with nearly 100 other firefighters from across the state.

The trip included a tour of the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) Training Facility (ROCK) on Randall's Island and visits to the FDNY Fire Museum and Ground Zero.

Booth and Stahly also marched in a parade with the other firefighters in Hamburg, N.J.[[In-content Ad]]
