WJMS names top students (11/08/07)
Taking Note
Students of the Month for October were recently named at West Jay Middle School.
In sixth grade was Brooke Hurst, the daughter of Steve and Holly Hurst.
In seventh grade was Tyler Back, the son of Bill and Michelle Back.
In eighth grade was Taylor Caldwell, the daughter of Rex Caldwell.
Craft shows
The Portland Lions Club will host a free craft show at the Portland Lions Civic Center, 307 East 100 North, in Portland on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Delts Holiday Arts and Crafts Show will be Saturday at Jay County High School commons from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $2. The show is sponsored by the Xi Chapter of Delta Theta Tau Sorority.
Gifts from the Home
Jay County Extension Homemakers will host Gifts from the Home on Monday at Jay County Fairgrounds 4-H Building.
Crafts will be made at 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. at a cost of $3.

Book week
Fort Recovery Public Library will celebrate Children's Book Week Nov. 12 through the 17.
Children may register for prizes and fines will be waived for overdue books.
A Thanksgiving story time will be Friday, Nov. 16, at 10:30 a.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 6:15 p.m.
High performance
The Indiana Department of Education has named Deerfield Elementary as a 2007-08 Title I High Performing School for making adequate yearly progress as measured by Indiana's ISTEP+ test for two or more consecutive years.
The school was also awarded $12,000.
A group of teachers, paraprofessionals and administrators from Deerfield Elementary had the opportunity to lead presentations at a Title I conference in French Lick. They shared programs and philosophies they feel have made a difference at the school.
Elected
Joshua Eal has been elected president for the fall semester at Tau Kappa Epsilon social fraternity at Wabash College in Crawfordsville.
He is a senior and the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Eal, Portland.
President's list
Derek A. Mills has made the president's list with a 4.0 GPA and perfect attendance for his first semester at Lincoln College of Technology in Indianapolis.
Mills is planning to complete a two year certification in collision repair and auto body repair technology and customization in one year.
