Women’s Giving Circle to meet at Heritage Commons (10/04/05)

The Portland Foundation’s Women’s Giving Circle will meet Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. at Heritage Commons to discuss grant recommendations. Anyone interested in becoming a new member is welcome to attend. Everyone is asked to bring a canned food or toiletry item to be donated to Community and Family Services Food Pantry.

Library events
The Jay County Public Library will have a mystery program for adults today at 6:30 p.m. The mystery of the Queen’s Jewels is a whodunit game that requires player participation. Players can choose their part. For more information or to register, call the library at (260) 726-7890.
Family story time will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the library. Themed stories will be shared and a craft or activity will follow. Infant through elementary age children are welcome, with their parents or family member. Young children may attend in their pajamas if desired.
A baby and toddler activity time will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Infants and toddlers up to age three are welcome with a parent or caregiver.
Stories, toys, music and instruments are shared. Older siblings may attend. Another baby and toddler activity time will be Thursday, Oct. 20, at 9:30 a.m.
Home school program
Youth Explosion Christian Academy will have a presentation on enrolling your child in a Christian home school environment. The presentation will be Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Church of God of Prophecy, 797 N. Creagor Ave. A video will be shown and questions answered.
Those attending will be able to register for a chance at two sponsorships for their child to attend the Academy. Also a packet will be available on after school tutoring. For more information, call (260) 726-9499.
Quilt show
The Art Association of Randolph County will present its Quilt Show 2005 on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 16, from noon to 4 p.m. The show will be at the 4-H Fairgrounds, south of Winchester on U.S. 27.
A special feature will be Quilt Turnings, a display of vintage quilts with commentary by Marilyn Goldman who is a quilt historian. Admission to the show is $2.
Anyone interested in entering quilts in the show may bring them to the AARC at the historic Depot in Union City on Thursday, Oct. 13, from noon until 4 p.m. or to Husted Hall at the 4-H Fairgrounds on Friday, Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon. Sarah Peterson, a 1999 graduate of Jay County High School, had her article “Calving Problems in Beef Cows” published in the 2005 edition of Veterinary Technician. She received a bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology from Purdue University and works for the USDA at Purdue in Animal Behavioral Studies. Peterson has been invited to the Minnesota State Veterinary Technician’s Association Annual Conference in February of 2006 to speak about her article.[[In-content Ad]]
