Women's group to give grant for health issues (07/28/06)

The Portland Foundation Women's Giving Circle is accepting grant applications through Sept. 5. The applications need to be from 501 organizations for projects relating to women's health issues and will be awarded in amounts of $250 to $1,000.

English class
Jay County Public Library will offer a free English as a second language class on Tuesday, Aug. 1, 8 and 15 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the community room.
The class is for anyone who speaks Spanish to improve their English skills. For more information, call the library at (260) 726-7890.
Miss Mideast
The Miss Mideast and Mideast's Outstanding Teen Pageant will be held in Richmond on Sunday, Oct. 1, for girls in Jay, Adams, Blackford, Randolph, Wayne and Wells Counties. The Pageants are preliminaries for the Miss America Organization and winners will compete for the titles of Miss Indiana and Indiana's Outstanding Teen in 2007.
Miss Mideast contestants must be between the ages of 17 and 23 and must attend school full time in the participating counties. Mideast's Outstanding Teen contestants must be between the ages of 13 and 17 and not a senior for the 2006-07 school year.
Areas of competition will include interview, talent, physical fitness and modeling an evening gown. For more information and to receive an entry form, call Judy or Kim Ingle at (765) 468-6276 or email [email protected].
