Taking Note

The Portland Country Club Women’s Association is hosting a golf tournament, Rally for a Cure to raise money and awareness of breast cancer, on Aug. 12, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. It is a Closest to Pin (Par 3 Hole) Contest.

Registration deadline is July 29. Entry fee is $15; nine holes with a cart is $16.50; walking is $10. A picnic will follow play.

GRADUATE

Michael Jared Bennett, a 1998 Jay County High School graduate, recently graduated from Southeastern College in Lakeland, Fla. He earned his bachelor’s degree in communications-broadcasting.

The son of the Rev. and Mrs. Roy Bennett, Portland, he is employed at Calvary Assembly of God Church in Winter Park, Fla., as a production assistant in their television media ministries.

DEAN’S LIST

Sara Heitkamp, 3741 Wabash Road, Fort Recovery, was recently named to the spring semester dean’s list at Capital University, Columbus, Ohio.

Also named to the spring semester dean’s list at Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, was Sarah E. Chapman, 3582 Treaty Line Road, Portland.

FAMILY FUN

The Indianapolis Art Center will hold its annual open house in conjunction with a Family Festival of the Arts on Sunday, Aug. 17, from 1-4 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. Visitors will be treated to a day of visual and performance art that includes activities for all.
