A poetry workshop and an open mic poetry night are set later this month at the Depot in Union City, Ind.
Sponsored by the Art Association of Randolph County, the events will feature poet Ted Leahey, a former Union City teacher who is now on the faculty at Indiana University.
Leahey will be conducting poetry workshops for students at Winchester High School and Union City Community High School on Monday, March 16.
That evening, he'll conduct a poetry workshop for adults from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Depot, 115 N. Howard St., Union City.
The art association's annual open mic poetry night is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, March 19, at the Depot. Admission is $2 for adults. Students are free. Refreshments will be served.
Leahey holds a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in communications, both from Ball State University. He taught in Union City schools from 1964 to 1998. Since 2007, he has been the director of the Advance College Project at Indiana University. He has conducted numerous poetry seminars and workshops.
