Wright headed back to state bowling meet (02/21/05)

Local Roundup

LAFAYETTE — Cody Wright is going back to state.

Wright earned himself a second straight berth in the state bowling meet Saturday as he placed second at the Lafayette semi-state. He finished fifth in the state last season.

The Jay County High Rollers team did not fare as well, placing sixth out of 14 teams.

It needed to be in the top four to advance.

Wright opened his day with a 235 and never slowed down in an incredibly consistent day as he notched the top qualifying score. He followed his first game with a 237, and added a 236 in his final game. He finished as the tournament-runner up as he lost the final head-to-head match of the day.

He will bowl for the individual state title at Indy’ Sport Bowl Saturday at 2 p.m.

The High Rollers were in first place as a team after posting and opening game score of 1,032. But, they slipped to third after the second round with a 1,963 total and slipped to a sixth-place finish.
