Library to host book sale

Jay County Public Library, 315 N. Ship St. in Portland, has several activities coming up in August and September.
The Friends of the Library Annual Used Book Sale will be held Thursday, Aug. 21, through Saturday, Aug. 23.
Donations will be accepted Aug. 18 to 20.
Author Mike Lackey will visit the library on Tuesday, Sept. 9, to talk about his book “Spitballing,” a story about baseball pitcher Long Bob Ewing who was famous for his spitball.
Hook & Needles Club will meet at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26, and the Cookbook Club will return at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, after its summer hiatus.
Books have been given to the library in honor of Ingrid Saxman from Linda Frantz; in memory of Marjorie Chapman from Gamma Nu Sorority; in support of children’s programs from Delta Theta Tau Sorority; and in support of 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten from Elijah Stockton.
Surpassed goal
Campaign chair Mindy Weaver recently announced that Arts Place, Inc., has surpassed its goal of $400,000 for its Campaign 2014.
The annual campaign raised $400,439 from 800 different individuals, businesses and industries, service organizations, foundations and fund raising events. Also more than 100 volunteers worked on the campaign.
Tea & Talk
Tea & Talk at Minnetrista: World’s Fair will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Minnetrista in Muncie. The cost is $10.
Guests will get to check out World’s Fair memorabilia from the Minnetrista Heritage Collection, enjoy refreshments and hear stories of the Ball canning contest from the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair.
A tomato canning workshop will also be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at a cost of $25.
