Adair Processing had simply outgrown its building.
The Pennville business recently relocated to 190 N. Union St. and held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday to celebrate the move.
Adair, which opened at its new location Oct. 16, offers custom butchering, wholesale, retail meats, spices, barbecues, jerky, summer sausage and other meat-related products.
Store owners Cindy and Brian Adair said the move was partly because of the size of their old location at 610 N. Mulberry St. It also has the benefit of being in the heart of downtown Pennville.
“It’s a better location, and we outgrew our old facility,” said the store owners. “Our old facility was just too small for what we needed to do.”
Fortunately for them, Brian Adair said, their new building became available about a year ago for a decent price.
“So we decided to go ahead and do it,” he said. “(We’ve) been doing a lot of work to it, but it’s coming along.”
It has taken about a year to be able to use the new store, the Adairs said, because it was in disarray when they bought it.
The owners plan to completely remodel the store, and have thus far done most of it themselves.
Though the move took a while, they hope with the new building and the improvements they can offer more to their costumers, such as expanding product offerings, having more wholesale meats and getting a bigger smoker.
“It’s just a bigger all around area so we can do more custom butchering and the retail part of it,” said Cindy Adair.
Though the location may have changed, the store’s goal has remained the same.
“Our main goal for the meat case — to try and feature local meats, meats that are raised right here either at Jay County, Blackford County, Wells, just surrounding counties that are farmer raised,” Cindy Adair said.
