Capsule Reports

Deer struck
Three Jay County residents were involved in deer accidents Sunday in Jay County.
Frida Hernandez Duenez, 19, 109 Green Park Drive, Portland, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she was traveling south on State Line Road south of county road 800 South when a deer ran into the roadway. Duenez was unable to avoid hitting the animal with her 2005 Chevrolet Equinox.
Damage in the 6:55 a.m. accident was estimated to be between $2,500 and $5,000.
Erin Lex, 48, 410 E. Max Drive, Lot 17, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she was traveling south on Ind. 1 north of county road 300 South when a deer ran into the roadway. She was unable to avoid hitting the animal with her 2003 Buick LeSabre.
Damage in the 8:20 a.m. accident was estimated to be between $1,000 and $2,500.
Travis Richards, 29, 4624 E. 200 South, Portland, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was traveling east on Ind. 67 near county road 650 East when a deer ran into the roadway. He was unable to avoid hitting the animal with his 2005 Kia Sorento.
Damage in the 5:50 p.m. accident was estimated to be less than $1,000.

Backing crash
A Spencerville woman was involved in an accident Sunday in Jackson Township.
Martha Chase, 54, 21411 Campbell Road, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she was backing her 2006 Ford Econoline at 6748 North 550 West when it struck a parked 2005 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck.
Kyle Schwartz, 1526 Lakeview Trail, Berne, owns the pick up truck.
Damage in the 5:30 p.m. accident was estimated to be less than $1,000.

Ran off the road
A Portland man was involved in an accident this morning in Pike Township.
According to an accident report, Jimmy Ray Stone, 19, 3246 S. 200 West, was traveling west on county road 400 South near county road 100 West when his 1995 Dodge 2500 pickup started to drift off the north side of the road. Stone overcorrected his vehicle and drove over a guardrail, which caused the truck to roll over and back onto its tires.
Stone was ejected from the vehicle and taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the accident.
Damage in the 12:29 a.m. accident was estimated to be between $5,000 and $10,000.

Wal-Mart vandalism
A Wal-Mart employee reported vandalism to Portland Police Department Saturday evening.
The employee told police a group vandalized the men’s bathroom with three cans of silly string from the store.
It was reported at 7:10 p.m.

Strikes pick-up
A van driven by a Fort Recovery man struck a pick-up truck about 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the entrance to the Decatur WalMart store.
Ralph L. Ranly, 55, told police he turned too sharply at the entrance, causing his van to hit a truck driven by Betty R. McBride, 50, Decatur, that was stopped at a stop sign in the parking lot.
Damage to the van was slight, but the truck was reported to have sustained significant damage.
